It’s worse than I thought.

In news from North Carolina, mentally handicapped people are once again being herded to the polls by unscrupulous campaign workers, with a parent of one infirmed person saying “She didn’t even know there’s two different parties.”  It continues,

“The law specifically says that anyone with a disability is allowed to have assistance from anyone that they choose,” said Terri Robertson, director of the Cumberland County Board of Elections.

The flaw in that is that they are not competent to choose who will help them, and therefore are prey to whomever gets to them first to “assist” them in making an unaware choice — even less so than the ignorant masses.  And THIS, more than any other reason, is why there ought to be a competency standard — and I say the higher the better.  Maybe we’d even fortuitously disqualify many of our candidates.
